Description
The HRT-556™ AM Silencer is a highly durable, low backpressure 5.56mm suppressor constructed from Griffin’s proprietary Nickel 625X™ powder alloy utilizing state-of-the-art DMLS additive manufacturing technology. This iteration of the HRT-556 Silencer shifts priorities to deliver an ultra low backpressure unit optimized for hard use while offering high levels of sound and flash reduction performance. Left handed shooters will benefit from the very low backpressure stack as well as right handed shooters.
These silencers are built on Griffin’s rock-solid DUAL-LOK® mounting system which has become one of the most trusted active-locking mounting systems preferred by law enforcement and military professionals. This advanced mount provides exceptional accuracy with minimal and repeatable POI shift, and completely eliminates the fear of unintended loosening during prolonged courses of fire.
The proprietary, patent-pending Nickel 625X™ alloy showed in testing a ~68% increase in yield and tensile strength over additively manufactured INCONEL® 625 at 1200°F. INCONEL® 625 is a commonly used suppressor alloy in current next generation military suppressors. Additively manufactured Nickel 625X™ is stronger at 1472°F than INCONEL® 625 cold formed sheet material at room temperature. INCONEL® 625 cold formed material provided adequate service in the last several decades of military suppressors.

I’m running a Griffin Mk2 11.5″ with their enhanced gas pocket BCG and suppressor-optimized buffer/spring setup. Picked up the HRT AM 5.56 mainly for duty use because of the DUAL-LOK system.
I’ll admit, I’m a bit obsessive about keeping the setup as short as possible while still staying comfortably under 140 dB. I’ve got a few Griffin cans already—some more traditional designs—and I’ve liked all of them. This one caught my attention because of the newer construction/materials they’re using, plus the mounting system. No HUB option, but honestly that wasn’t a dealbreaker for me, and I know HUB’s are out now.
Big reason I went this route is the mount and overall performance. On a duty rifle, not having to worry about the can loosening is huge. Just riding around in a unit over time, stuff shifts and settles—even when you stay on top of maintenance. I’ve seen it happen with more than just optics and lights. The DUAL-LOK system feels rock solid, and I don’t have any concerns about it backing off or causing issues like baffle strikes. On top of that, the sound performance is really solid—especially for the size—and it stays comfortable to shoot while still keeping the setup compact.
Griffin also claims reduced back pressure, which mattered to me as a lefty. I haven’t put it through a full two-day course yet, but running quals and drills, it’s been solid. Gas to the face is noticeably better, especially paired with the BCG. Sound performance is great too.
You do pick up a little extra length with the DUAL-LOK, but for the added security and durability, it’s worth it in my opinion. Handling it, you can tell both the can and mount are built for hard use.
Overall, I’m impressed. Griffin did a solid job with this one.
