Description
Typical production AR-15 pins are ~.245″ diameter and flat on the ends. They operate in .250 pin holes, and items used to push the pins occasionally slide off and can scratch your lower receiver.
This pin set is ~.248″ diameter, allowing you to improve your upper to lower receiver fit, and features early Armalite / early Colt style dimples to assist in location of bullet tips or tools used to push the pins. The tool locating dimples reduce the likelyhood of scratching your lower and add a nice feature to ease diss-assembly.
Note: Some Ar15’s are manufactured out of specification and are designed to have no tolerance with .245 pins. These would not be a good candidate for this part. Mil-spec uppers and lowers however typically have .006-.008″ of play and these pins will remove ~.002-.003 of that play, improving fit and feel of the parts. Does not include detents or detent springs.

Great product. I had a lot of play between my upper and lower. Which bothered me since the upper and lower were supposedly a matched set. The pins took out all the play. Great idea and product.
Ross –
I had a tiny, tiny bit of play between my receivers. I was hoping these would eliminate it. Turns out they are the exact same size as my original pins. They are high quality and I liked the finish better so I used them.

I bought these to take out the slop between my Spikes lower and BCM upper. It helped some, but didn’t fully eliminate it. I threw in some X-shims as well and now it perfect. The pins are really nice, just not quite enough for my particular rifle, though I don’t know if any sized pin would have solved my issue.
Ralph Osborn the Gunsmith –
I used this set along with a set of AR-15 Pivot Pin Shims from TriggerShims.com and have a nice tight build now.
Thanks for a Great Product!!
Wilbert –
Best pins I have ever used so far

There are good videos on line that show simple installation techniques. They work…so do these pins. While they don’t eliminate play between upper and lowers, they do help. Worth the dollars.
Dodd –
Slightly reduced play between upper and lower.
Dimpled pins make field takedown easy with whatever happens to be handy with a point.
Strongside Arms –
Excellent product, took out 90% of the play between the upper and lower.
Evan –
If you’re looking for something to make your upper fit tighter to the lower, these are it! Made my upper fit seamlessly.
Tuan N –
I just got these pins today, hoping to snug up a receiver set and replace the lantac pins, turns out the lantac pins fit tighter than these, but they are tighter fitting than Strike Ind. Pins, I give them 3 stars because I had higher expectations for fitment, but still a very nice set of pins good for any build.
OUTATIME –
After looking all over the place for oversized pins I found these. They took the the slop right out of the upper and lower.
Ed Abner –
Worked great these pins tightened up the gap . Great product.
EvanG –
The standard that should be used in all your AR builds. Improves fit between upper and lower from various manufacturers.

They didn’t quite take out all of the wiggle in my upper and lower, but they’re definitely better quality than the ones I had before, and they’re alot tighter overall, so they’re staying in my rifle even after I used other methods to fix my problem.
Tom –
High quality, will use again.

I bought these little magical pins to reduce the play from the rear takedown pin hole on a Griffin lower receiver… Before ordering these I tried 3 or 4 other brands I already had however they did not improve the somewhat loose fit… Upon getting these from Griffin I installed them and they were PERFECT…
From now on I plan on using these pins on all my builds… Also, Griffin processed the order very fast and I had the order in 4 days…
THANK YOU GRIFFIN…
Jeff –
My new build had a slight bit of movement. Not at all excessive. Ordered these pins, the front didn’t seem any different but the rear pin did seem tighter and eliminated movement. I’m happy with the result.

These are the takedown pins you need when you have a wobbly lower and upper receiver. I believed these are 2-3 thousand more of an inch compare to a mil spec take down pins. Great product. I would buy it again.
Philip C –
High quality takedown pin set that tightened everything up big time.
Back pin is really snug to the point it needs taps to fully seat-unseat which is ok with me.
It will loosen up with use.
Carter –
They are nice pins, makes it easier to take the rifle down. I got them to fix some wobble on a PsA kit. It’s hard to say if it really helped or not. I guess?
Logan Jansen –
I wasn’t expecting these to work after hearing some folks not notice a difference with some other oversized pins.
For me these took out every bit of play that my Psa upper/lower had.
Went from a shaking rattle of the lower and upper smacking, now it is tight and you can only hear the buffer tube rattle.
Highly recommend these pins.
Matthew –
Perfect fit and easy install for my aero precision lower. I tested it was a BCA upper. Less slop than the NBS pins. Thanks
Logan Henderson –
Purchases the over sized take down/pivot pins needing to sure up the upper and lower on my competition 556. The service and pins are 100% quality. I will be buying more in the future.

Helps with fitting of lower to upper. Does what it is designed to do.

I have to admit, I thought this was going to be a bust for the price. Another company makes the same thing in a few different sizes, but charge more than triple for them. I took a chance on these and I am happy to say that they work great. Took up pretty much ALL my slope (wasnt much, just OCD about it). They are pretty much the same price as normal pins, so there is NO down side. However, since I only used them on 2 lowers, cant say for the tolerances and how they will fit in yours. I do have a brand spanking new one that was just purchased a few weeks ago and they fit SNUG, not enough that you cant remove them, but enough to take up that little play. These are a no brainer for the cost. Thank you Griffin.
Eric –
I bought these because they are slightly oversized and it really helped to make the upper and lower tighter. Would buy again!

Was delivered fast and seems to be a great product.

I had a LMT SBR lower and BCM upper that fit horribly. In fact, every upper I tried fit poorly. I know it doesn’t matter for reliability or accuracy, but man was it bothersome. Tons of play in every direction, noisy too. I bought these pins as a last resort, and didn’t think it would really make any difference. Wow, did it make a difference! Know the fit is snug, no more wiggling around and clanking. Pins are smooth in/out, no binding. Unbelievable what a few thousandths diff in dimensions made. Also, it doesn’t mention that the pins are slightly longer too which I like for disassembly. Will definitely buy more of these as needed!
Gary McCue –
Fit my carbine perfectly with the .248 diameter. Slightly longer length and the dimpled ends are a bonus
Michael K –
Easy to install and helped receiver slop
Eric –
These are a must if you have a sloopy AR. Tightens things right up.
John Rando –
Have bought 4 pairs of these. They all measure out as advertised. Would be great if the offered even larger diameters e.g. .250, .251, etc.

Purchased the Pivot/Takedown Pin Set from Griffin Armament to hopefully tighten up a loose AR15 a little bit. Put a micrometer on the new pins and they are dead on .248″. Unfortunately so are my existing ones. So the main reason for the new pins was out the window. BUT, they are nice looking pins and I really like the dimple feature so they are going in the AR anyway. Happy to have them at what I think is a really good price.
These aren’t my first Griffin Armament products and they won’t be my last.
Ray –
These appear to be solid pins with a large consistent dimple. Far better than standard pins.
RSB –
Greetings,
Another great product from a reputable company not installed yet because waiting for the Ambi lower should be a nice fit.

Quality peoduct all the way around… highly recommend…
