Years ago Griffin Armament introduced a market changing product, the Optimus® suppressor. This suppressor could be used on both a handgun, as well as a rifle, and was modular for length, modular for mounting system, and was able to be taken apart for user maintenance. Despite the Optimus’ success Griffin has researched and engineered several new technologies that it is proud to incorporate into the new second generation Optimus® suppressor. These new features will ensure that the Optimus® suppressor remains at the forefront of the universal suppressor category.
Universal suppressors, such as the Griffin Optimus® 9 and Bushwhacker® 46, are capable of use on tilt barrel semi-automatic pistols as well as sub guns, fixed barrel firearms, and rifles covering nearly all popular commercial cartridges and firearm combinations. The Optimus® was engineered with an ideal 1.375” outside diameter which makes it well suited to pistols equipped with factory sights vs traditional rifle silencers typically being 1.5” or greater in diameter, such as the case with the Bushwhacker® 46. With the booster piston housing for tilt barrel pistols installed, the Optimus® suppressor is an ideal 6.6” long and a mobile 12oz weight, despite it’s incredibly strong 17-4 stainless steel construction. This size and weight combination is ideal for 9mm pistols.
The 2nd Gen Optimus is fitted from the factory with Griffin’s patent pending Universal QD Piston System. This unique pistol attachment system is comprised of 2 parts, the piston and the separately available barrel adapter. Adapters are made with different barrel thread pitches ensuring all your handguns, both American and European models can be equipped to quickly attach and detach your suppressor. This deletes the need to constantly reconfigure the booster piston when going from one handgun to another. Additionally, this system secures the suppressor to the pistol by way of a taper locking feature which ensures that common baffle and end cap strikes often associated to pistol suppressors are nearly eliminated. Legacy, fixed pistons allow market suppressors to unthread from the host firearm during use due to the lack of a solution to confront the innate vibration involved with the reciprocation and oscillation of the slide, barrel, suppressor, and sprung piston system. This attachment method provides a solution to this age old problem providing quick, secure mounting ability, universal cross adaptation between handguns, and eliminating wasted time and some cost configuring the suppressor back and forth with more expensive parts.
The Optimus® retains the ability to use the Low Profile 3 Lug System for fixed barrel firearms. The existing A2 adapter also still functions with new Gen 2 Optimus® ensuring AR15 firearms can be fitted with a logical mounting option. Additionally included is a Taper Mount Adapter and EZ-Brake™ (no timing required), which provides an accurate out of the box system that Griffin end users typically apply to rifles of all categories. The taper mount system is a mainstay of the Griffin product line and has been proven over a decade of use. Various mounts are available offering different performance benefits depending on end user desires.
Wrench flats were added to the tube body in response to customer requests to make the suppressor easier to work with when changing configurations or maintaining the baffle assembly. The baffle assembly is serviced by removing the unchanged patented dual locking taper front cap system. This front cap system secures the suppressor contents within the suppressor regardless of rapid fire and heating and cooling, but also allows quick and easy removal for maintenance.
Included with the Gen 2 Optimus® is the new ECO-FLOW™ baffle system. Costly R&D resources were spent to develop the patent pending ECO-FLOW™ baffle technology for use in applicable Griffin designs. This baffle system provides reduced back pressure, greater structural strength, longer service life, and up to 9db sound pressure reduction vs original version Optimus® baffle systems. Original gen 1 Optimus® suppressors are compatible with ECO-FLOW™ systems should current users desire upgrades in the future. The blast baffle remains unchanged other than an improvement to H900 heat treating it for enhanced durability.
The Optimus® provides multi-tool functionality with premium materials, workmanship, and application of technology. For end users seeking an Industry leading universal suppressor that covers 90 % of popular commercial cartridges, look no further than the new Optimus® 9mm suppressor (Gen 2).
For the Optimus® to be compatible with the Taper Mount Hammer Comp, the blast baffle MUST BE REMOVED.

Studied and reviewed based on my wanting to shoot .22, 9mm handgun, and have a suppressed long gun this was my only and best choice. Otherwise, would have needed multiple suppressors and tax stamps. Well pleased with each application. Recently threaded Rem 700 in .223. This rifle sounds like a .22! Sig Sauer .22 pistol sounds like a pellet gun. Just ordered the Minimalist to shorten over-all and another threaded adapter. Couldn't be more pleased with quality, ease of cleaning, and functionality.
Love this silencer but..... For the money why doesn't it come with all you need to use on an AR15 ? Why must you also purchase the additional part's like minimalist blast shield? There's 4 configurations but you need to spend additional money. Would be 5 star's if it was a complete purchase.
The versatility is amazing. This can be run on everything I own (30 cal and under). It's not the quietest can as it only uses 5 baffles in the pistol configuration and 6 in the rifle, but is worth every penny for its usability. It's a great starter can. There are, however, some quirks. For one, the various threaded parts of the suppressor tend to come loose and have to be tightened. This requires allowing it to cool for some time and then tightening it back up. Mildly annoying, but not a huge deal. I use anti-seize so I'm not sure if this is a contributing factor. bore. If you're looking to suppress an AK variant, DO NOT purchase the 14x1 LD minimalist flash hide as it will index off your front sight post and not the barrel. I bought two thinking the muzzle device was the issue the first time. I even wound up sending the rifle back to the manufacturer, where they confirmed concentricity of the bore. What I wound up having to do is purchase the 5/8x24 adapter a 3rd minimalist flash hider in 5/8x24. After that is worked extremely well. Just a pain that they would offer the 14x1 LH version even though it will not work. If I didn't purchase an alignment rod to be sure, I would have ruined the suppressor. I'm sure they would repair or replace it though, should that happen. I also purchased the Cam-Lok QD system for a handful of handguns. This prevents you from having to switch pistons when changing firearms and is worth its weight in gold. It works well, but you have to make sure you tighten firmly otherwise the suppressor can come loose. When it does happen, it is obvious though. Additional purchased accessories are the A2 mount, and the minimalist blast shield. Both increase the functionality of the can and are welcome additions. My overall conclusion is that this is a great option for someone who is just getting into suppressors or only wants to purchase one. It offers versatility and good sound suppression. I would not, however, feel comfortable taking this thing into battle. If you want something to take through training or for more aggressive use, you may want to consider something with a more rock-solid mounting system (e.g., SureFire). With the taper-mount system they use there is little to no POI shift, which makes it a fantastic range can and can withstand light to medium use without fail. Just be prepared to spend some quality time with it when it is time for maintenance.
Very happy with the performance, fit, and finish. Very easy to service/clean it once you figure out which tools you need, and what works for different types of fouling. Be prepared to spend more money on adapters/muzzle devices to get the most out of it. My only gripe is the difficulty when you try to convert back to mid or full configuration. Any amount of fouling makes it difficult to insert the rifle blast baffle. Not a quick transition unless the can is clean. But it’s a great multi-caliber suppressor. With the tri-lug adapter, it’s easy to switch from fixed barrel pistols to 9mm pcc/sub gun up to AR 15 (300 Blk/5.56) without a hitch. I’d love if the could design a tool that would rapidly scrape the fouling from the rear chamber, similar to the BONE tool by Otis.
DISAPPOINTED. Just got mine. 9 months in trust, FYI. You do not get what you need for $1,100 plus $200. Pretty ridiculous that you can't run this on your 223 out of the box. You can put it on your 308 with with the taper mount OR you can run it on your 9mm IF it is a tilt barrel. So this great universal silencer can't run on the most popular rifle ever made, your AR15 without spending more. Now, am I going to go buy another adapter for my ARs, yes I have no choice, but what a joke. I guess if there were ONE part they know you're going to need to buy and they can get more money out of you for, that would be the one. Yeah, Yeah, I shoulda known, but for whatever reason they convinced me I had everything I needed. Would I have ordered anyway, yeah, BUT i also would've ordered a damn 5.56 adapter mount so I could actually use the damn thing when it showed up after 9 flipping months. So there goes another $100 and more waiting. Seriously, if you're going to include only one taper mount, it should probably be for the most common rifle, no?
I bought my silencer through a local dealer. I love the adaptability of the Optimus. I have used it on 9mm pistol, 300 BO pistol, 5.56 pistol, 5.56 carbine, 22 lr pistol and 22lr rifle. The Optimus is a great silencer and the adaptability to various firearms and calibers was the big selling point to me. The number of attachments that are offered is also a major selling point for me. I am now thinking of getting the Bushwacker 46. Thanks for the great product guys.
I Could not be happier with the performance. Jail broke this can two years ago with a 10 month ATF wait for the stamp. I have put thousands of rounds down range on multiple weapons ie .22 pistol / rifle , 9mm, .556 / .223 pistol / rifle AR, .270 WSM. Worth every penny spent on brakes to configure the can. Worth every penny spent on this can. User friend and built to last. One can to ruler them all! I read many reviews from forum haters but my personal experience with this product was better that my expectations. I old school Army and we are rough on stuff, I have yet to damage this beast! I also reconfigure this can at the range while barrels are cooling if you catch my drift. Every single friend of mine is impressed with this transformer product. I run sub, super, reloads, and factory ammo with no regrets no matter the quality of the ammo this can is tough. I am a kinda of critical guy when it comes to weapons, gear, and performance. 5 Stars Boys even the Wife is happier with less noise in the backyard!
I have had mine for a few months now. I’m really happy with the integrity of the threads and accessories are great as well! This thing is so fun. You will be amazed with subsonic ammo.
My first silencer. Excellent starter. Use with 22 pistol, Glock 17/19, AR-15's, and 6.5 Creedmore. Everything you need, except a taper mount muzzle brake for the AR. Or, get the A2 Blast Shield A2 Mount. Lets you use the silencer on most all A2 muzzle brakes. **** this is a must have for this silencer ****
